Platinum/PGM Catalyst

Platinum/PGM Catalyst

We are a proud pioneer in the development of the first catalyst for nitric acid production in Norway.

As early as 1932, K.A. Rasmussen participated in the pioneering development of the first catalyst gauze pack for nitric acid production in Norway. Since then, we have worked continuously on further development in the field and contributed to solid and valuable Nordic expertise in the area.

With a goal of always delivering high-quality products, it is very important that the quality of the raw materials is of the finest kind. Therefore, we focus on optimizing our own refining process to ensure a purity of at least 999.5 for all metals we use in our production.

Customized catalyst systems

Catalyst systems for the oxidation of ammonia in nitric acid production are customized to suit the specific conditions of the given reactor. Combustion yield, lifetime/campaign length, PGM value for installation, and metal loss are calculated to ensure the best possible outcome for our customers.

This will be ensured for each reactor type (atmospheric, low, medium, or high pressure), all of which require their specific composition of PGM mesh packs.

General dimensions and mesh details:

Wire thickness: Typically 60-120 µm
Woven gauzes: Mesh 16-32 wires/cm in warp with weft, i.e., 256-1024 mesh/cm²
Knitted gauzes: Gauzes are knitted with one or two thread sets/warp.

The weight of knitted gauzes will be approximately the same as woven depending on the pattern. There is a wide range of warp knitting patterns that provide flexibility for customization and optimization.
Knitted gauzes from us are developed to provide a large number of small light openings to ensure uniform flow characteristics for optimal ammonia oxidation capability.
Gold, silver, FeCrAl, and copper can also be supplied as knitted or woven gauzes in addition to PGM catalyst systems.
