150 years of recycling precious metals

150 years of recycling precious metals

Here, at our factory premises in Hamar, recycling takes place every day, and we have utilized precious metals as a renewable resource since before our grandparents were born.

We go to great lengths to create and manage value in a responsible and environmentally conscious manner. And we consistently focus on acquiring the necessary knowledge, expertise, and equipment required to operate and develop our business in increasingly sustainable ways.

A Unique Renewable Material

Precious metals have the fantastic property that they can be recycled again and again without compromising quality. Therefore, we have enormous respect for the raw materials we use, and these valuable metals are constantly being utilized in new industrial areas and in groundbreaking inventions that will reach new customers and markets.

Responsible Operations in Relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Being the Nordic region’s largest refiner and supplier of precious metals also comes with responsibility. We aim to be a pioneering company and an innovator that leads the way in sustainable operations and development. Our strategy is therefore based on – and compatible with – the UN Sustainable Development Goals, where we have concretized three main areas for our sustainability work and our future goals: social conditions, climate and environment, and economic conditions.

Social Sustainability

Sustainability is not just about climate and environment, but also about us humans. It is primarily we who together constitute K.A. Rasmussen and everything we achieve. We, the people, are the most important resources, and we should all have equal opportunities to be seen and heard every day.

As a workplace, we have a social responsibility to ensure good, safe jobs. It is our job to ensure that all our employees go to work with a smile, experience well-being, and have the opportunity to develop and utilize their potential. Working environment, diversity, safe surroundings, decent wages and working conditions, and equality are therefore central areas in our HR policy – and in our commitment to our colleagues.
We therefore set strict requirements for our own safety procedures and have a zero-vision for injuries and accidents.

New Technology Makes Us Increasingly Resource-Efficient

Giving new life to old metal, and thereby developing innovations for the benefit and use of both the private market and global industry, is a positive and necessary endeavor. The recycling of precious metals is important, and only in this way can we ensure availability in the future. Extracting precious metals from mine ore requires large amounts of resources and is a source of environmentally harmful emissions, while the burden of recycling is significantly lower, even though our refining processes also involve substantial chemical consumption. However, with new technology and solutions, we see opportunities to make these processes more resource-efficient, with the goal of cutting our chemical consumption by 20% compared to 2020.
