— FIND CARAT AND HALLMARK

How do I find out what my gold is worth?

The easiest way is to get a professional valuation of gold jewelry, cutlery, or other precious metal items.

You do not need to know the carat, weight, or metal content in advance – we investigate this as part of the valuation. However, with a little knowledge of hallmarks and gold content, you can also make a simple estimate yourself.

By identifying the carat of the jewelry and comparing it with today’s gold price, you can get a better understanding of what the item might be worth before sending it in for valuation. You can learn more about this further down the page.

What can I send in?

We evaluate, among other things:

  • Gold rings
  • Silver rings
  • Gold chains
  • Silver chains
  • Bracelet
  • Earrings
  • Heirloom gold
  • Heirloom silver
  • Dental and scrap gold
  • Silver cutlery
  • Silver jewelry

Even damaged or incomplete items can have significant value.

What determines the value of gold?

The value of gold is mainly determined by three things:
1. How pure the gold is.
2. How much it weighs.
3. What the gold price is on the day the item is valued.

1. Gold content (carat)
Not all gold jewelry contains the same amount of gold. On most jewelry, you will find a small hallmark that indicates what proportion of the metal is actually pure gold. This is called carat or fineness. Unsure about carat or hallmark? That is also completely normal. We will identify the content as part of the valuation anyway.

A ring stamped 585, for example, consists of 58.5% pure gold, while the rest are other metals that make the jewelry more durable.

The higher the gold content, the more each gram is worth.

Tip: Hallmarks are often found on the inside of rings, on the clasp of chains, or on the back of jewelry. If you cannot find the hallmark, we can help you identify the gold content.

2. Weight
Once the gold content is known, we look at the weight.

A heavy gold ring contains more gold than a light gold ring of the same carat, and will therefore normally have a higher value. It is also important to be aware that stones, pearls, enamel, watch movements, and other materials are not included in the gold value.

We only buy the metal. Stones and diamonds must be removed before submission if you wish to keep them, as these are not included in the valuation and will not be returned separately.

3. Today’s gold price
Gold is traded on international markets, and the price changes daily. When the gold price rises, the value of gold jewelry, gold rings, gold chains, and other items containing gold also increases.

This means that the same piece of jewelry may have a different value today than it did a few years or even days ago.

Therefore, the settlement is always calculated based on the current gold price at the time of valuation.

For gold: Weight in grams x today’s price at the time of valuation.
For silver: Weight in kilograms x today’s price at the time of valuation.

Your price is calculated based on weight and metal price at the time of valuation – not submission. This is not necessarily the same day we receive your valuables. Upon approved offer, the money will be paid out within a few business days. See also our terms and conditions here.

If the metals you wish to send in are too large to fit in the return envelope, you can attach the return label to suitable packaging.

No, you do not have to use our return shipment, but we recommend it as the return will be insured.
If you still wish to send at your own risk, you must use this address on your package:

In certain cases, you as a customer will achieve the best price if the item is first refined and analyzed before the submitted metals are priced. In this case, it will take at least 14 days before we are allowed to refine the submission. The reason for this is the 14-day storage obligation pursuant to our second-hand dealer license.

If this is the case for your submission, you will be contacted when we have received your package.

You are free to decline. If you wish the items returned, we will send them back insured for a fee of 350 NOK.

You pay nothing for our valuation. We perform a price assessment, which is based on analysis results and weight, and occurs according to the current price at the time of valuation – not submission.

We do not provide settlement for stones and diamonds.
We do not send such items back either, so these must be removed before any submission.

You can come in person to deliver your metals in Hamar and Oslo.
You can find us here. Remember valid ID.

For security and legal reasons, we must verify the identity of the person selling and receiving the settlement.

The person who identifies themselves, fills out the self-declaration, and receives the settlement to their bank account, must be the same person. However, the submission itself can be carried out by another person on your behalf.

585 means that the item consists of 58.5 percent pure gold. This corresponds to 14 carat gold and is the most common gold alloy in Norwegian jewelry.

750 means that the item consists of 75 percent pure gold. This corresponds to 18 carat gold and is often used in exclusive jewelry.

Yes. The value is mainly determined by gold content and weight. A broken piece of jewelry can therefore have the same metal value as an intact piece.

No. We identify the gold content as part of the valuation. You do not need to know the carat or value in advance.

The value of 14 carat gold depends on weight and the current gold price. Since 14 carat gold contains 58.5 percent pure gold, its value will vary with the gold market.
