150 years of recycling precious metals
Here at our factory premises in Hamar, recycling takes place every single day. For generations, we have extracted precious metals from used products and residual materials, returning them to the cycle as new raw materials. In this way, for over 150 years, we have contributed to preserving valuable resources and reducing the need for new extraction.
We go to great lengths to create and manage value in a responsible and environmentally conscious manner. And we consistently focus on acquiring the necessary knowledge, expertise, and equipment required to operate and develop our business in increasingly sustainable ways.
A Unique Renewable Material
Precious metals have the unique property that they can be recycled again and again without their quality or properties deteriorating. Therefore, we treat raw materials with great respect – every gram counts. Through recycling, we give valuable metals new life, allowing them to be reused, both in existing and in entirely new industrial applications.
Responsible operations and our contribution to a more sustainable future
As the Nordic region’s largest refiner and supplier of precious metals, we have a clear responsibility. We aim to be a pioneering company and an innovator that leads the way in sustainable operations and development. The core of our business is precisely to safeguard valuable resources and return them to the cycle.
Every day, we contribute to reducing the need for new mining, preserving scarce resources, and facilitating a more circular economy. Through this work, we support several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to responsible consumption and production, climate and environment, and decent work. Our goal is to further develop our business in a way that creates value, both for society, our customers, and future generations.
It is our employees who, every day, make up K.A. Rasmussen and everything we achieve. Therefore, it is important for us to create a workplace where everyone has equal opportunities to be seen and heard, thrive, and develop.
We have a clear responsibility to ensure safe and good working conditions. Working environment, diversity, equality, and decent wages and working conditions are a natural part of how we operate our business. We set strict safety requirements and have a zero-vision for injuries and accidents – because everyone should come home safely from work.
You can read more about how we work with this in practice in our sustainability report, our report on work for equality and non-discrimination (ARP), and in the statement on due diligence assessments under the Transparency Act.
New technology makes us increasingly resource-efficient
Giving new life to old metal, and thereby developing innovations for the benefit and use of both the private market and global industry, is a positive and necessary endeavor. The recycling of precious metals is important, and only in this way can we ensure availability in the future.
Extracting precious metals from mine ore requires large amounts of resources and is a source of environmentally harmful emissions, while the burden of recycling is significantly lower, even though our refining processes also involve substantial chemical consumption. But with new technology and new solutions, we see opportunities to make these processes more resource-efficient.
